ISSB Preparation
Understand the Inter Services Selection Board stages and prepare with confidence.
What is ISSB?
The Inter Services Selection Board assesses candidates for commissioned entries into the Army, Navy and Air Force. It usually runs over several days and looks at your personality, leadership and mental strength, not just your knowledge.
Stages You Can Expect
- Psychological tests: written and picture-based tests that reveal your thinking and personality
- GTO tasks: group and individual outdoor tasks that show teamwork and leadership
- Interview: a conversation about your background, interests and motivation
- Conference: a final review of your overall performance
Preparation Tips
- Be honest and natural. Trying to act like someone else rarely works.
- Work on communication, confidence and teamwork well before the test.
- Stay physically fit and keep a regular sleep routine.
- Read about current affairs and your own city, family and education so you can speak about them clearly.
- Practise speaking in front of a mirror or with friends.
ISSB procedures can change. Follow the official instructions you receive with your call letter.
