The Inter Services Selection Board, usually called ISSB, assesses a candidate’s personality and potential for officer-level training. Many candidates worry about it because it feels different from a written exam. In reality, it is built to see how you naturally think, act and work with others, so honest preparation matters more than memorised answers.
Psychological assessment
This stage includes written and picture-based tasks that reveal how you think and respond. There are no trick questions. The best approach is to stay natural, read instructions carefully and answer in your own words.
Group tasks
In group activities, candidates work together to solve problems. Observers watch teamwork, communication, leadership and how you treat others. Listening to teammates and contributing clear ideas usually matters more than talking the most.
Interview
The interview is a conversation about your background, interests and goals. Be ready to talk about your education, family, hobbies and why you want to serve. Honesty and clarity create a better impression than rehearsed speeches.
How to prepare
- Practise speaking clearly in front of a mirror or with a friend.
- Read the news so you can discuss current affairs in simple words.
- Work on teamwork in everyday life, such as sports or study groups.
- Sleep well before the test and arrive on time.
