About Verbal Test 01
Verbal reasoning tests how quickly you can see patterns in words, numbers and relationships. Verbal Test 01 includes 25 multiple-choice questions in 10 minutes, covering analogies, series, coding, blood relations, direction sense and word meaning.
Many armed forces initial tests include a section like this, so regular practice can improve both your speed and your confidence.
Question types in this test
- Odd one out and analogies, such as pen and write
- Number and letter series
- Letter coding, for example moving each letter one step forward
- Blood relations
- Direction sense
- Synonyms and antonyms
Tips for each type
For number series, check the differences between neighbouring numbers first, then look for doubling or squares. For letter series, convert letters to their positions in the alphabet, where A is 1 and Z is 26. For coding questions, compare one letter pair at a time to find the rule before you apply it.
For blood relations, draw a small family tree on rough paper. For direction questions, draw an arrow from your starting point and turn it step by step. Drawing removes confusion and takes only a few seconds.
Manage your time
With 10 minutes for 25 questions, avoid spending more than 30 seconds on any single item. If a question is stubborn, move on and come back if time remains. A finished paper with a few guesses usually scores higher than a half-finished paper with perfect answers.
Build the habit
Reasoning improves with short, regular sessions. Attempt one test, review every mistake, and look for the rule you missed. Within a few weeks you will notice that patterns that once looked hard now jump out immediately.
Practise with a timer
Speed matters as much as accuracy. Set a stopwatch and try ten questions in four minutes, then increase the difficulty gradually. After each session, note which question types slowed you down. Series and coding questions usually become faster once you recognise the common rules, such as adding or doubling.
Try to understand why a wrong option is wrong, not just why the right one is right. This habit sharpens your eye for traps, and traps are exactly where tests separate careful candidates from hurried ones. Keep a short notebook of rules you discover, and read it before each practice session.
