About English Test 01
English appears in almost every entry test, school exam and job screening in Pakistan, and small grammar slips cost easy marks. English Test 01 gives you 25 multiple-choice questions to finish in 10 minutes, so you can check your grammar and vocabulary under real time pressure. It suits students preparing for armed forces initial tests, matric and intermediate exams, and general job tests.
Every question has four options. When you finish, the test shows your score, the correct answers and a short explanation for each mistake.
What this test covers
The questions are mixed on purpose, just like a real paper. You will meet these areas:
- Synonyms and antonyms, such as diligent, abundant and expand
- Subject-verb agreement with words like neither and each
- Prepositions, articles and tenses
- Spelling, plurals and comparatives
- Active and passive voice, and direct and indirect speech
- Common idioms and one-word substitutions
Together these topics make up a large share of the English section in most entry tests.
How to get the most from this test
Attempt the test once without stopping to look anything up. Your first score shows where you really stand. After that, read the explanations for every wrong answer and write the rule in a notebook in your own words. A rule you have written yourself is easier to remember on exam day.
Try the test again after two or three days. If your score rises, your revision is working. If the same questions keep going wrong, spend extra time on that topic before moving on.
Common mistakes to avoid
Many candidates lose marks by rushing. Read the whole sentence before choosing, because the last word often changes the answer. Remember that words like each, either and neither take a singular verb, and that the choice between a and an depends on sound, not spelling. Do not guess spellings; learn the tricky ones such as necessary and receive.
A simple weekly routine
Spend ten minutes a day on one grammar topic, such as tenses on Monday and prepositions on Tuesday, and finish the week with this test. Add five new words to a vocabulary list each day, writing the synonym and antonym beside each one. Small, regular steps build a strong base.
