About English Test 02

English Test 02 is the second timed practice set in our English series for Pak Army, Navy and Pak Air Force initial tests. It has 25 multiple-choice questions to finish in 10 minutes, and every question comes from a topic that appears again and again in real papers: tenses, prepositions, synonyms, antonyms, spelling, voice, speech, articles, idioms and one-word substitutions.

Every question has four options. When you finish, the test shows your score, the correct answers and a short explanation for each mistake. If you have not tried the first set yet, start with English Test 01 and then come back to this one.

What this test covers

The 25 questions are mixed on purpose, just like a real paper. You will meet these areas:

  • Synonyms and antonyms, such as meticulous, reluctant, obsolete and fragile
  • Tenses, including past perfect, present perfect and the third conditional
  • Prepositions such as responsible for, insist on and waiting for
  • Spelling of tricky words like privilege and accommodation
  • Active and passive voice, and direct and indirect speech
  • Articles, plurals, idioms and one-word substitutions

These are the same topics that make up a large share of the English section in the Pak Army, Pak Navy and PAF initial tests.

Quick revision notes from this test

  • Use the past perfect (had + past participle) for the earlier of two past actions, as in "By the time we arrived, the train had left."
  • The correct phrases are "responsible for", "insist on" and "wait for two hours".
  • Use "a" before the sound /y/, so we say "a university", and "an" before a vowel sound, so we say "an honest man".
  • In "neither...nor", the verb agrees with the noun nearer to it.
  • The plural of criterion is criteria, and the third conditional is "if + had + past participle, would have + past participle".
  • Remember spellings: privilege (no d) and accommodation (double c, double m).

How to get the most from this test

Attempt the test once without looking anything up. Your first score shows where you really stand. Then read the explanation for every wrong answer and write the rule in a notebook in your own words. Try the test again after two or three days, and if the same questions keep going wrong, spend extra time on that topic before moving on.
