About Verbal Test 04

Verbal Test 04 is a free, timed set of 25 verbal intelligence MCQs, written for candidates who are getting ready for the Pak Army, Pak Navy and Pak Air Force (PAF) initial tests. You have 10 minutes, and at the end the test shows your score along with the correct answer and a short explanation for each question you missed.

This paper is a little tougher than the earlier ones in the series. It has letter series with a growing gap, number series built on squares, a tricky blood relation question, and a day-counting question that needs a quick remainder trick. If you have not started yet, begin with Verbal Test 01, then Verbal Test 02 and Verbal Test 03.

Tricks for the harder questions

Letter series with a growing gap

In B, D, G, K, P the jumps are 2, 3, 4, 5, so the next jump is 6 and the answer is V. In A, D, H, M, S the jumps start at 3 and also grow by one each time, so the next jump is 7. Count seven letters forward from S and you land on Z. If the letters feel confusing, write A = 1 up to Z = 26 on your rough sheet and work with numbers.

Number series

Check for a fixed step first, like 8, 15, 22, which goes up by 7. If the steps are not equal, look at the gaps. In 3, 8, 15, 24, 35 the gaps are 5, 7, 9, 11, so the next gap is 13. A series like 1, 4, 9, 16, 25 is a list of squares, so remember the squares up to at least 15.

Blood relation questions

Read the statement slowly and replace each phrase one at a time. "My mother's daughter" is either your sister or yourself, and the question tells you that Sara has no sisters. So it can only be Sara, and the son of that person is Sara's son. Drawing two circles and an arrow takes five seconds and saves you from a wrong guess.

Counting days ahead

Do not count ten days one by one. Divide by 7 and keep only the remainder: 10 days is 1 week and 3 extra days. Tuesday plus 3 is Friday. This works for any number of days, even 45 or 100.

Direction questions

Two left turns or two right turns always mean a full about-turn, so someone facing north will end up facing south. For walking questions, draw the path with an arrow for each leg and read the final position from the sketch.

Coding, synonyms and odd one out

For previous-letter coding such as MIND to LHMC, write each letter and its neighbour before the alphabet in a row, then copy the pattern. For synonyms and antonyms, notice that "honest" and "silent" sit in the same options as words that look similar but mean something else, so check the instruction line before you tick an answer. For odd one out, group the three similar items first and then name what they share.

Planning your 10 minutes

You do not need to treat all 25 questions equally. Synonyms, antonyms and analogies can be done in under 15 seconds if you know the words, so clear them first. That leaves more time for the series and the blood relation question. If one question is eating your time, leave it and come back.

How to prepare for the Pak Army, Navy and PAF verbal test

Make a habit of reviewing the explanations after each attempt and writing down the rule you missed. Writing it in your own words helps more than only reading it. After a few days, try the paper again and see which mistakes disappeared. Once this test feels comfortable, continue with Verbal Test 05.

Also practise a few questions every day instead of doing a long session once a week. Short, regular practice builds the speed that the real test asks for.
