About Verbal Test 05

Verbal Test 05 is a free online paper of 25 verbal intelligence MCQs for candidates preparing for the Pak Army, Pak Navy and Pak Air Force (PAF) initial tests. The timer is set to 10 minutes. After you submit, you see your score, and every question you missed comes back with the right answer and a short explanation.

This is the fifth paper in the series, so it works well as a revision test. It brings together prime numbers, shapes, planets, letter shifts that wrap around the alphabet, and simple logic and day questions. If you skipped the earlier papers, you can find them from the Verbal Intelligence Tests page.

What to watch for in this paper

Odd one out with numbers, planets and shapes

These questions are about finding the group first. In 2, 3, 5, 9 the first three are prime, and 9 is divisible by 3. In Mercury, Venus, Earth, Moon, three are planets and the Moon orbits one of them. In the shapes question, the cylinder is a solid, while the others are flat. Always say the group name in your head before you choose.

Number series

Two kinds of series appear here. The simple ones use a fixed step or doubling, such as 12, 24, 36, 48 and 2, 4, 8, 16, 32. The harder one is 5, 10, 17, 26, 37, where the gaps are 5, 7, 9, 11. Another way to see it is that each number is a square plus one: 4+1, 9+1, 16+1 and so on. Use whichever view you find quicker.

Letter series

D, H, L, P, T and C, G, K, O, S both move four places at a time. The easy way is to count on your fingers: from T, the four letters after it are U, V, W, X. Do not skip this step, because counting in your head is where mistakes happen.

Coding-decoding that wraps around

The question that turns GAME into FZLD is the one to be careful with. When you move back one place from A, you land on Z, because the alphabet loops. The same idea works in the other direction, where Z moves forward to A. Write the shifted letters one under another before you pick the option.

Relations and ranking

Some relation questions give you the answer inside the statement, and the job is only to read it carefully. If the man is the husband of Ahmed's only sister, then he is that woman's husband. For the ranking question, write the three names in order from oldest to youngest and the answer is at the top.

Directions and the day after tomorrow

Facing east and turning right gives south. Remember the clockwise order North, East, South, West and a right turn is just one step forward. For "the day after tomorrow", first find today. If yesterday was Sunday, today is Monday, and two days later is Wednesday.

Time plan

Give yourself a quick first round of about four minutes on the synonym, antonym and analogy questions, since they depend on vocabulary and take little time. Spend the next five minutes on series and coding. Keep the last minute for questions you skipped. Remember that every question carries the same weight, so a quick one is worth as much as a slow one.

How to prepare for the Pak Army, Navy and PAF verbal test

Treat this paper as a checkpoint. If you score well, move ahead to a different subject or to the Non Verbal Test 01. If you lose marks, go back to the topic where you slipped and take Verbal Test 04 or Verbal Test 03 again. Keep a short notebook of rules, such as "A goes back to Z" or "gaps that grow by 2", and read it before the next attempt.
